Memphis Million is a unique advertising medium. This is not a new concept but plays to "billboard" style of advertising. Instead of placing business cards on billboards waiting for someone to visit your website or give you a call, you can reach potentially 1.2 Million people in the Memphis Metropolitan area. Below are a list of questions and answers (FAQs). If these don't answer your question, feel free to contact us."
While we would like to claim that this was our idea, we simply cannot. The basic idea of selling pixels on a home page was pioneered by a young English student seeking to pay for his tuition at business school. His idea was simple, sell each pixel on a 1000 X 1000 grid in blocks of 10X10 (100 pixels). His idea was extremely successful and generated large amounts of traffic to the advertising pixel holders.
Return to TopThis seems to be a trick question. The site itself will be available and hosted for 5 years (ending December 31, 2014). If all is going well, we might keep the site going past that date ;) It will be up to the Memphis community and their reaction and participation.
As the student said, this is a kind of time capsule for the Memphis community to display things that are GREAT about the city. So, please post things that are positive and be a part of a "Memphis First".
Return to TopSince the goal is to have a meaningful representation of the Memphis community, pixels will be sold in minimum blocks of 10X10 or 100 pixels. This represents one "square" on the grid. Since you can only display a single color per pixel, it wouldn't be very useful to have a page will a bunch of dots. You can always "go in" with friends to purchase a block but you are limited to one link from your block.
Return to TopThere will be a link and image to the website of your choosing when you purchase pixels. This will potentially be seen by millions of people and drive potential traffic to your website. Plus, the link could help with the SEO rating of your website. Plus, this site will be available for a minimum of 5 years but hopefully participation will great enough to keep it "alive" forever. This will allow you to be a part of the Memphis online community and be a part of a "Memphis First".
Return to TopYou don't own the pixels or any part of the page. You are purchaseing the right to submit an image and link to be published on the homepage in the selected space you paid for, but we reserve the right to remove/refuse to publish images that are of any discriminatory, profane or otherwise generally unappropriate nature. Please keep it clean and positive. We don't want to show Memphis in a negative light. So, don't upload any image that you wouldn't want your children or grandchildren to see and associate with you or Memphis.
Return to TopLinks and images that are of a profane, discriminatory, or otherwise generally inappropriate nature (determined solely by Memphis Million) will not be tolerated. If an image or link is deemed inappropriate, you will be given a chance to submit another image. If you refuse to do so, your money will be refunded and your pixels will be re allocated for purchase. This is an absolute rule.
Now, with that out of the way, all links should link to a website with http:// and not a SSL connection https://.
Return to TopImages will be permanent once they are published. So, please make sure that you submit an image that you wouldn't mind seeing in 10 years. In the event of extreme circumstances (lawsuit, etc.) we will consider exceptions.
Return to TopLinks are permanent once they are published. In the event of extreme circumstances (lawsuit, etc.) we will consider exceptions.
Return to TopPlease submit images in JPG or GIF format, no BMPs, PNGs or animated GIFs please!
Return to TopThe image should be of the size you have purchased pixels. If you purchase 100 pixels (10 X 10), then the image should be 10 pixels X 10 pixels. This eliminates any "guess work" on Memphis Million's part.
Return to TopNO! It would make the page look like a train wreck. The goal is to have a snap shot of the Memphis community, not a YouTube video gone bad.
Return to TopAnyone can submit and image and link for the purchased space/pixels. You must have the authority to submit an image an link for the referenced site
Return to TopIf you submit an image and link and it is published on the website, there will be no refund.
Return to TopAbsolutely. We presume that it is your website and you own the content of that site. However, if you change the content of a linked page and that content is deemed to be profane, discriminatory or otherwise inappropriate, the link will be removed and you will be given a chance to provide an acceptable link and no refund given for downtime.
